Pemmican  
 
Stampeded  
into gale,
brought down
by flint or iron ball,

blacksoil hide
pierced, stripped,
meat and gristle

cut, scraped
from barrel rib
and lopped spine,

flesh sun-lashed,
wind-scorched,
stone-pilloried
and rock-churned,

all scalded by
flood of grease
