Connie Wieneke Three Poems
How to Master Climate Control

in his retirement my father     has taken kindly
to the near tropics      available to those
who opt in     for the stay-at-home vacation
behind low clouds     he can forget
what he cannot talk about     the badlands
a kick to the ribs     car acid in the face
children who are glad     he refuses to engage
shrunken     man as he is he answers
his studio door     he's always been
the wrong side of some door     a delivery man
pretty sure he knows what you want    all swagger
this sheet-metal mechanic     not wearing pants
his poolside chair      a hungry leatherette

his poolside attire white      socks t-shirt and
jockey shorts     how to tell him
none of it looks that good     on this man
