Madeleine Lee Poem
National Language

in a place of pride
in the pride of place
is our national language
mute and silent

wears a darker sheen
set against a shirt in brighter white
as if to differentiate
he is older
has the mustachio
and the requisite
not one but two pens
in his shirt pocket
he holds
a pencil or ruler or chalk
it is hard to tell
he is somewhat in the shadow
