from an Ancient Liturgy

after The Shark Trust ‘ID Guide: Starry Skate’ and Vita Korneva ‘i have to wear a skin’

…§ Then shall follow two collects

Collect 1
Protect the Starry Skate from harm,
her gills and spiracles
from knocks and careless touch.
Grant her a place of shade at noon,
a soft surface when the sun goes down.

Collect 2
Together as in one net we welcome her.
She breaks surface as a white hammer

V  She is almost a people.
R  She crushes shells in her jaws.

V  She is kin.
R  Her fins pectoral, dorsal, pelvic, caudal.

§ Then shall all devoutly touch chest, back of neck, lumber region, left hip.
