J. L. Williams Two Poems
for all eternity it hurts my eyes

god is the hole in the ceiling
through which the word gold is falling

saying god does not mean god it means bones beneath flesh
beneath skin beneath fire blue paint

it means the rictus on the dreamer’s split lips
through which the word gold is lisped amidst

the formula for calculating speed of light in holes beyond the solar system’s
furthest vibration of the unborn child (paralysed) sacrificed

god gave this meaning beneath bones: the lizard’s face
which was the wise man’s face becomes the bird’s face

learning words this way teaches us to dream beyond
eating flesh craving flesh flaying flesh

god is the lyrebird (soldier) whose wings, singed,
falls forever singing (look away) ‘animal / human’

On the day of the birds
