Colin Graham Poem
A calm flowing motion

Based on the music and text in Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia, 3rd Movement

In the universal deluge, places of nourishment,
pure and transparent elements for your refuge.
Up to now I have seen neither the singers nor the fields,
nor witnesses from the first days of creation –
the beginning is resounding. Pull the ladder up after yourself,
trying to say the unsayable.

It must have been very lovely to hear it over and over again.
I’m sorry, I couldn’t attend. We’re still here, at the instant
Before ignition, where the dark sentiments rule,
at the door leading to another world,
like sluices opening
                                on a mountain stream.
