Leaving school at 16, Charles Bennett worked for fourteen years before attending London University. A scholarship to America included mentorship with Seamus Heaney followed by a doctorate. He taught for a time before establishing Ledbury Poetry Festival, then initiated and led Creative Writing at the University of Northampton where he became Associate Professor. In addition to his poetry, collaborations with choral composer Bob Chilcott have established him as a mesmerising librettist.
